Statement regarding the protests in iran

As the protests of the Iranian people grow ever stronger, the people of Myanmar stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Iran in their struggle against dictatorship, oppression, and ruthless senseless violence. Like Myanmar, Iran, in her long and illustrious history has known many forms of brutal dictatorship, and like the people of Myanmar, the Iranian people continue to suffer. The horrific murder of Zhina Amini has rightly shocked Iran and people all around the world. The people’s backlash against their oppressive regime, and its foot soldiers, the Gasht-e Ershâd and Basij, has caused reverberations which are being felt by brutal regimes the world over. Truly Zhina’s name has become a symbol world-wide.

Faced with a people pushed beyond breaking point, forced to suffer the indignities of an unquestionable extremist dictatorship for decades, and determined at long last to take back their freedom and rights, by force if necessary, the foot soldiers of the regime are experiencing fear for the first time in a long time. The savagery and brutality with which they have responded to protests and the regime’s attempts to block the internet in the hopes of suffocating the truth are evidence of their fear. Myanmar too has seen its regime employ the same tactics in the hopes of quelling dissent. They have failed, and every day the Myanmar regime is pushed back one more inch. The Iranian people likewise cannot be beaten or scared into silence. They are determined never again to let an innocent life be cut short in the service of defending an indefensible regime.

The people of Iran are an inspiration to oppressed people the world over, and Myanmar stands in support and solidarity with their struggle. It is our fervent hope that the people of Iran take back their rights from the regime, and demonstrate both within their country and on the world stage, that a united popular front cannot be pushed back. That the harder the regime cracks down on those who demand what is theirs by right, the more people will join the ranks of the movement. May this be yet an other successful step on the path to liberating all people in the world from oppression and tyranny.
